According to Science How Often to Wash Your Hair

According to the “no-poo” method, you do not need shampoo to wash your hair. And even if “no poo” isn’t enough for you, you’ve likely changed your hair care routine several times over the years to suit your needs.

Many people choose to wash their hair every day to get that fresh, clean look, and while hair from day one certainly looks and feels great, washing your hair too often can do more harm than good.

We were surprised to find that most of us don’t need to wash our hair every day, or even every other day. Let’s delve into this topic together.

How Often Should You Wash Your Hair?

It Depends On Your Hair Type

While some of us are used to washing our hair properly every day, others can get away with it no more than once a week. If you have fine and delicate hair, you may want to wash it daily as it easily coats with sebum and becomes greasy much faster.

People with dry or curly hair need to wash it much less frequently and washing it every day would be sufficient. If your hair is textured, it needs to be washed as little as possible, and using a mild shampoo no more than once a week or even every two weeks would be enough to keep it clean.

Your Hair Feels Oily

Once your hair gets a little greasy, you may be tempted to wash it right away, but the sebum your scalp produces is really essential for the health and beauty of your locks.

Despite what the shampoo commercials are trying to convince us, washing your hair daily can be a recipe for a bad hair day. Hair that is completely free of natural oil can look rough and much more difficult to style.

When the scalp becomes too dry, it can start to produce even more sebum, and it is recommended to wash your hair every 2-3 days to avoid oiliness and irritation of the scalp.

You Work Out A Lot

It’s no wonder that a gym session can ruin your hair and make it look less than fresh. Showering after your workout can not only clean you up, it can also help your muscles recover faster.

If you love to exercise and spend hours in the gym regularly, washing your hair daily can protect the skin on your scalp from fungal infections and clogged pores, which in turn can slow down hair growth and even lead to its downfall.

You Use Styling Products Often

If you think your hair has become weak and thin after years of heating and using hairspray, you are not wrong. Hair waxes and gels can definitely help you retain the rash, but if used too often they can build up on the scalp and cause itchiness.

To help those beautiful waves stay on for hours and keep your scalp healthy, wash your hair thoroughly when you’re done styling.

Your Hair Is Dyed

Dyeing your hair is a fun and creative way to refresh your appearance, but if you want your new color to stay vibrant longer, wash your hair less often. Washing the strands just 2 or 3 times a week is enough to keep your hair clean and prolong the life of the new shade.
