The coronavirus lockdown has hit the Indian economy hard. While all the private and public sector employees have been either given work from home or paid leaves following the shutdown due to the pandemic, the daily wage workers remain the worst affected section as far as financial loss is concerned.
Accordingly, the BCCI president Sourav Ganguly has pledged to donate rice worth Rs 50 lakh to the poor, reports NDTV. He’ll be collaborating with a local rice brand for the same and helping those taking shelter in government schools and rain baseras.
“Hope this initiative of Ganguly would encourage other citizens of the state to take up similar initiatives to serve the people of our state,” a statement from the CAB read.
Comedian and actor Kapil Sharma too stepped forward to donate Rs. 50 lakh to the Prime Minister’s Relief Fund, reports Zee News.
Singer Dhvani Bhanushali donated Rs 50,000 to the Film and Television Producers Guild of India, for the daily wage workers in the industry who have lost work due to lockdown, reports News 18.
